Loyola College, Mettala, is a minority Catholic Co-Educational Institution, Affiliated to the Periyar University, Salem.
The Department of Computer Science was started in the year 2015. The department have 4 experienced faculty members. The department provided the ICT enabled teaching and learning to the students, who contribute to global development through gaining the focused knowledge and skills. To bridge the gap between classroom teaching and the actual field outside, the department organizes expert talks and seminars on current topics through forum for Information Technology. It is the platform for students to bring out their talents, creativity and innovations. Our students are extremely talented and have won several shields and championships in various competitions and events. As part of its Extension activities, the Department promotes Computer Literacy and Education for students. It is also involved in devising and developing expert systems for rural development.
Assistant Professor & Head
He completed his M.C.A. and M.Phil. degrees and has qualified NET. He has 11 years of teaching experience and is currently working as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science at Loyola College, Mettala. His area of specialization is Image Processing. A committed academician, he takes on several academic and administrative responsibilities, and is dedicated to motivating and mentoring students, particularly those from rural backgrounds.

He completed his M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees, and holds a Ph.D. He is currently serving as Vice Principal at Loyola College, Mettala, and has extensive teaching experience. His specialization is in Artificial Intelligence. As a mentor and administrator, he plays a key role in shaping the academic and personal growth of students, inspiring many from underprivileged backgrounds.
Assistant Professor
He completed his M.Sc., B.Ed., and M.Phil. degrees. He has 8 years of experience teaching Computer Science and is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Loyola College, Mettala. His area of interest is Software Metrics. He is passionate about fostering a positive learning environment and encourages students from rural backgrounds to excel in their academic pursuits.

His area of specialization is Data Mining. A dedicated educator, he is committed to motivating students from rural areas to achieve academic success.
The Department of Computer Science hosted the GIGS Association Inauguration on July 19, 2024. The event featured Dr. T. Pavithra, Assistant Professor at Annai Women's College, Karur, as the Chief Guest, who delivered an insightful lecture on "Emerging Technologies of 2K24." Additionally, two student clubs were inaugurated: Loop Sabers (Coders Club) and Fusion Cut (Editors Club).
A team of 16 students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in Techwala 2K24, a National Level Symposium at Hindustan College of Arts & Commerce on 23rd August 2024, and achieved remarkable success by winning multiple prizes, bringing pride to our institution.
A team of 18 students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in Spark 2K24, a National Level Symposium at Arulmigu Arthanareeswarar Arts & Science College on 31st August 2024, and secured numerous prizes, showcasing their exceptional talent and bringing pride to our institution.
A team of 5 students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in Techspark 24 at AVS College, Omalur, on 6th September 2024, and emerged as the Overall Champions, winning multiple prizes and bringing immense pride to our institution.
A team of 16 talented girls from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, showcased their excellence at ATHAARA 2K24, a National Level Symposium at Vivekanandha College of Arts & Science for Women, Tiruchengode, on 13th September 2024, and proudly secured the title of Overall Winners, winning multiple prizes and bringing great honor to our institution.
The Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, conducted an Android Workshop on 13th September 2024 in the Computer Science Laboratory exclusively for final-year students. The session was led by Mr. Vijayan, a Software Engineer cum HR at Mastermind Tecno Solution, Salem.

A team of 22 students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in Cyber Talk 24, a National Level Tech Symposium at Sona College of Technology, Salem, on 26th September 2024, and secured two prizes, showcasing their technical expertise and competitive spirit.
A team of 50 students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in PIXEL SHOW 2K24, a National Level Tech Symposium at Muthayammal College of Arts & Science on 27th September 2024, and emerged as the Overall Winners, bringing immense pride to our institution.
A team of four students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in Spectra 2025, an Inter-Collegiate Cultural Fest at Muthayammal Memorial College of Arts and Science. They competed in Quiz and Image Connection events and won prizes in both, showcasing their talent and competitive spirit.
The Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, made history by successfully organizing its first-ever National Level Tech Symposium - LOYONOVATE 2K25 on 23rd January 2025. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 120+ students representing 18 colleges, including two students from Kakinada Degree College, Andhra Pradesh and a student from South Delhi. The symposium was graced by Dr. Anastraj, Head & Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph University, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, as the Chief Guest. This milestone event provided a dynamic platform for students to showcase their technical prowess, exchange ideas, and engage in competitive challenges, marking a proud moment in the history of Loyola College, Mettala.

13 final-year girl students from the Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, participated in the Workshop on AI SYNERGY 2025 at Paavai College of Arts & Science for Women on 19th February 2025, gaining valuable insights into the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence.
The Department of Computer Science, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, successfully conducted a two-day Workshop on Graphic Design (Adobe Photoshop), with 46 students from various departments actively participating. The workshop focused entirely on Photoshop tools, techniques, and creative design principles, equipping students with hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills.
