Loyola College, Mettala, is a minority Catholic Co-Educational Institution, Affiliated to the Periyar University, Salem.
Loyola College of Arts and Science was established in 2015 by the Jesuits of Chennai Province. It provides quality education to the students who hail from this region especially poor and marginalized sections of the society. The Department of Tamil has been functioning since 2015 It caters to all the departments by teaching General Tamil. As for the Growth of the department, it starteds to offer in 2022 B.A. Tamil as an undergraduate Programme. In order to teach the subject effectively. Staff members qualify themselves adequately . At present, there are Eight faculty members out of which Five faculty are Ph.D. holders All the staff members have NET/SET There are 73 students in department at present. The Department conducts "Puthan virunthu" on every Wednesday. It helps the students to develop their Creativity. Oratory and Thinking ability. It also Promotes, trains and encourages the students to participate in National and state level speech, writing and Quiz Competitions in Tamil. Every year, it takes the students for educational Tour to many historical place through which students get insights on culture and literature. Veeramamunivar Tamil peravai conducts Seminars, conference and workshop to enrich teaching learning process. The department also helps the poor students financially by getting scholarships from various sponsors.

He completed his undergraduate Degree in St.Joseph's College, Trichy. He did his M.A., in Jamal Mohamed College. He completed B.Ed at Kavin College of Education. He pursued M.phil & Ph.D in St.Joseph's college, Trichy. He qualified NET (National Eligibility Test) conducted by the UGC. He has 9 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. His area of interest includes Sanga Ellakkiyam ,Kappiyangal and Ilakkanam. He is a prolific motivator of students who come from rural backgrounds. In Addition to this he has published 30 Research, Articles, 2 Books & received 5 Awards.. He has given a Guest Lecture on "Nannol, Sollathigaram" at Loyola College, Chennai.
Assistant Professor
He completed his bachelor degree in St.Joseph's College, Trichy. He has completed his M.A., in Jamal Mohamed College, He completed B.Ed at Excl College of Education. affiliated to Bharathidasan University, M.phil in Bharathidasan University & has qualified SET. He is pursuing Ph.D at Bishop Hebar College. He has 19 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. His area of interest includes Kappiyangal and Elakkanam. He is a prolific motivator of students who come from rural background. In Addition to this, he has published 20 Research Articles so far.
Assistant Professor
She completed her bachelor degree in Government Arts College for Women, Salem. She has completed her postgraduate studies at Annamalai University, M.Phil in Bharathidhasan University & Ph.D in Periyar university and has qualified the NET, SET and TET. She has 15 years of experience in Teaching Tamil literature. Her area of interest includes Bakthi Elakkiyam and Grammar. A prolific motivator of students who come from rural background. She is eager in extending her service to get scholarship from NGO's and other sources with her expertise, she motivates students to take part in District and National level competitions. . In Addition to this, he has published 20 Research Articles.

He completed his bachelor degree in Jamal Mohamed college Tiruchirappalli. He has completed his M.A., in Periyar EVR College, and he pursued his Ph.D in Jamal Mohamed college, He has done his B.Ed at Elizebeth College of Education. He qualified NET (National Eligibility Test). In Addition to this, He published 3 Books, 10 UGC Certified Journals, 11 Chapters, 53 Research Articles & received 11 Awards. He has 11 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. His area of interest includes Kappiyangal and Ellakkiyam. He is a prolific motivator of students who come from rural background.He is a Member of editor Board, "Classical Journals".

He has completed his M.A., in Government Arts college, Salem affiliated to Periyar University, has completed B.Ed in Rasipuram. M.phil in Periyar University, he also qualified NET and SET. He has 14 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. He is pursuing Ph.D at Thiruvalluvar Govt College, Rasipuram. His area of research includes "Nattupura Padalagal". He is a prolific motivator of students who come from rural background. He has published 6 Articles.

He has completed M.Ed in Jennis College of Education, Trichy. He has 8 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. His area of interest includes Sanga Ellakkiyam & Tamil Grammar. He motivates students and has given counselling to clear Competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, RRB, TNUSRB, TNPSC & TRB. He has Published 4 Books, 62 Articles & wrote Scripts and Poems.

He completed his bachelor degree in Periyar E.V.R College, Trichy, completed his postgraduate studies at Jamal Mohamed College at Bharathidhasan University, M.Phil in Periyar University, B.Ed in Bathmavani College of Education, Salem and has qualified the NET. He is pursuing Ph.D at Govt Arts College in Krishnagiri. He has 18 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. His area of interest includes Grammar and Modern literature. He wrote a book titled Uthukulal, a collection of poems. He motivates students to publish books (Script and Poetry). In addition to this, he has published 7 Research Articles.

She has completed her M.phil at Bharathiyar Arts & science college, Attur and has completed B.Ed in Sri Ganesh college of Arts And Science in Salem in 2014 . She has obtained Ph.D in Government Arts & Science college, Salem in 2023. She has 5 years of experience in teaching Tamil literature. Her area of interest includes Kappiyangal and Sanga Ellakkiyam. She is a prolific motivator of students who come from rural background. In addition to her academic, she has published 4 Research Articles .
Veeramamunivar TamilPeravai Inauguration
On behalf of the Tamil Department of Loyola College, Mettala, Rasipuram, on Tuesday, 23.07.2024, Veeramamunivar TamilPeravai was inaugurated by Prof. Soosai. Prof. K. Thangavel began with the welcome speech. Dr. Danish Ponniah, Secretary of the College graced the occasion. He delivered a Presidential address. The principal of the college, Dr. Josephine Daisy delivered the felicitation address. Dr. S. Xavier, Head of Tamil Department delivered the introductory address.
Prof. Soosai, former Head of the Department, Department of Tamil Studies in St. Joseph's College, who participated as a special speaker on the occasion, delivered a lecture on " Uyiril Kalantha Kavithaigal".
Pudhan Virundhu
On every Wednesday, an event called "Pudhan Virundhu" is conducted by the Tamil Department. The students from two disciplines are selected for each event and are allowed to participate in the event. To develop the skills of students such as Oratory, Poetry composing skills, Singing songs, Drama composing and acting, all the students of the college participate as spectators and benefit by seeing, listening and thinking about the insightful works. In order to enhance the creative skills of the students, one of the professors of the Tamil Department coordinates and conducts it every month.
Historical Tourism
On behalf of the Tamil Department, all the three year students of B.A. Tamil were taken on a study tour to Thanjavur, Trichy and other places on Friday, 13.09.2024. They visited the Thanjai Periya Kovil and Tamil University in Thanjavur. They also visited temples like Trichy Rock Fort and Srirangam.
Young Writers Training Workshop
A two-day workshop for young writers was held on 13.12.2024 & 14.12.2024 at Loyola College Mettala near Rasipuram. The workshop was jointly organized by the Tamil Department and Tamil Nadu Social Monitor. Chief Guests on the occasion were Ms. Rajeshwari. Muthukandan, Assistant Professor, Madras Christian College, and Mr. Irudayaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication, Loyola College and Tamil Film Director Mr. Raasi Azhagappan. They spoke on the title, "Where there is poverty, there is prosperity in life". The students eagerly listened to their speech. Certificates were awarded to all the 60 students who participated in the event.
Art Exhibition
The Department of Tamil, Loyola Arts and Science College, Mettala, Rasipuram, in collaboration with Veeramamunivar TamilPeravai and Wetland Foundation, organized an awareness art exhibition on Fine Arts and Concepts on the theme of Conservation of Biodiversity on Wednesday, 05.02.2025.
Artist N. Tamilarasan, Founder of Eeranilayam participated as the Chief Guest and exhibited his beautiful paintings on the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity living in harmony with nature and explained nature related concepts to the students. All the students of the college participated in this event organized by Tamil Department of Tamil and benefited by seeing the paintings related to nature.
International Mother Language Day
World Mother Language Day celebrated on 25.02.2024 on behalf of the Department of Tamil, Loyola Arts and Science College, Mettala, Rasipuram. The chief guest was Dr. V. Sankaranarayanan, Kailash College, Salem Who delivered a special lecture on Mother Tongue all over the world. The logo of Veeramamunivar Tamil Peravai functioning under the banncz of the Department of Tamil was released by the chief guest.
Study Tourism
The students of Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala, Rasipuram undertook a two-day study tour on 13.03.2025 & 14.03.2025. They visited Cochin, Munnar, Alapuzha, Guruvayur and Chottanikkarai. Totally 45 students participated in the study tour.
