Loyola College, Mettala, is a minority Catholic Co-Educational Institution, Affiliated to the Periyar University, Salem.
The Department of Chemistry was established in 2016. At present, the department offers only undergraduate course B.Sc. Chemistry. The department provides a pleasant learning atmosphere with spacious and well-furnished classrooms. The department enjoys the special status of being the only department that has a sophisticated and well-furnished laboratory that catches the attention of everyone who walks into the college campus. Since, it is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem, it follows the syllabus pattern of the University. Formal lectures will be made more effective and useful by providing students with synopses of lectures and bibliography. Besides lectures, there will be assignments, guided library work, seminars, group discussions, projects, etc. Audio-visual aids, models, laboratory work, workshop and field experience will also form part of the teaching process. It also runs eco-club activities for all the college students.

He is an accomplished Assistant Professor of Chemistry with a strong expertise in theoretical and computational chemistry. His research focuses on molecular modeling, quantum chemistry, and computational simulations, contributing to advancements in the field. With a passion for scientific exploration, he has published research papers in prestigious journals, including Molecular Physics and others, showcasing his commitment to cutting-edge chemical research. He holds both his Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees from St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Furthering his academic journey, he earned his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, solidifying his foundation in advanced chemistry research. As an educator and researcher, Mr. Nichodemus strives to inspire the next generation of chemists, blending theoretical knowledge with computational applications to solve complex chemical problems.
Assistant Professor
He is a distinguished academician and administrator, currently serving as the Vice Principal of Administration at Loyola College of Arts & Science, Mettala, Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. With a strong background in Coordination Chemistry, he has significantly contributed to research, teaching, and institutional development. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, under Bharathidasan University, and has previously worked as the Head of the Department of Chemistry at Loyola College. His dedication to education and research has been recognized with multiple awards and publications. Dr. Sharma also possesses professional qualifications in Education (M.Ed., M.Phil.), Computer Applications (PGDCA), and extensive expertise in analytical chemistry techniques. He act as a Vice Principal of Administration, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala (Since June 2022) and also held various positions like Head of the Department of Chemistry, Loyola College of Arts and Science, Mettala (June 2016 - June 2021), Coordinator of Environmental Club, Loyola College of Arts and Science (June 2016 - June 2022), Research Experience at St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli (2012 - 2016). He has published multiple research papers in prestigious journals such as International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, International Journal of ChemTech Research, Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research, and others. His Areas of research is Synthesis and characterization of metal complexes, electrochemical investigations, and macrocyclic ligand studies. Dr. Sharma has published eight books in Chemistry and English.He has secured Best Teacher Award - Loyola College of Arts and Science (2018-2019), Best Researcher Award - VDGOOD Technology Factory (2021).Dr. L. Rakesh Sharma continues to make impactful contributions to higher education, research, and institutional leadership, shaping the academic and scientific landscape through his expertise and dedication.

He is an accomplished Assistant Professor of Chemistry with 11 years and 8 months of teaching experience. His expertise lies in Inorganic Chemistry, particularly in the synthesis and characterization of coordination and organometallic complexes.He earned his Ph.D. from Periyar University, Salem, India, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. P. Viswanathamurthi, focusing on "Synthesis, Characterization, and Crystal Structure of Co(III), Ni(II), Ru(II), and Cd(II) Complexes Bearing Thiosemicarbazone-Based Ligands and Their Applications." Prior to that, he completed his M.Phil. dissertation on "Studies on New Ruthenium(II) Hydrazone Schiff Base Complexes Containing PPh3/AsPh3 and Other Co-Ligands," also under Prof. Dr. P. Viswanathamurthi at Periyar University. He has Published 27 research articles in esteemed journals, including J. Mol. Catal. A: Chem., Polyhedron, and others and Presented 15 research papers at various national and international conferences and seminars. He held in various position like Coordinator, Youth Red Cross - Loyola College of Arts & Science, Mettala, Rasipuram, Namakkal (Since June 2019), Senate Member, Periyar University, Salem (Since October 20, 2020),Coordinator of Examinations (Since 2022).With a strong commitment to academic excellence, research, and student mentorship, Dr. Manikandan continues to make significant contributions to the field of Inorganic Chemistry while actively engaging in academic leadership and institutional development.

With a strong academic foundation and research expertise, she has contributed significantly to the field through her work in computational studies, synthesis, and characterization of metal complexes. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. on "Synthesis, Characterization, and Computational Studies of Metal Complexes. She earned her M.Phil. with distinction from , holds M.Sc. in Chemistry with a Gold Medal from Pachaiyappa's College (Autonomous), Chennai, B.Sc in Muthayammal College of Arts and Science, Namakkal, she has Published research papers in prestigious journals, including journal of interdisciplinary cycle research. having Teaching Experience of 8 years in school education and 3 years in college teaching, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence.she is the Recipient of the "Wings of Fire - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam" Award, presented by Mr. Kuplu (Indian Freedom Fighter), recognizing her dedication to education and research.With a passion for scientific discovery and student mentorship, Ms. Sofiya continues to make impactful contributions in the field of Inorganic Chemistry.

She has a strong academic foundation and research expertise, particularly in Electrochemistry and Nanotechnology, with a focus on anodic non-porous alumina (ANPA) coatings, corrosion resistance, and surface characterization.She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Periyar University, Salem, focusing on "Fabrication and Antibacterial Properties of Anodic Non-Porous Alumina (ANPA) Coatings with Enhanced Corrosion Resistance from Binary Electrolytes." Her M.Phil. Research also revolved around nanoporous alumina coatings and their applications in dye removal.Dr. Senbahavalli has secured multiple academic distinctions, including University Third Rank in M.Phil. and University Fifth Rank in M.Sc. She has Published research papers in prestigious journals such as Materials Discovery and Journal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Presented research papers at national and international conferences, including events organized by Periyar University, Mangalore University, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Her area of Research Interests lies in Electrochemistry, Nanotechnology, Corrosion Science, and Surface Chemistry. She secured Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF-SRF) from UGC for her Ph.D. research.Dr. R. Senbahavalli continues to make significant contributions to the field of Electrochemistry and Nanotechnology, inspiring students through her research and teaching expertise.

The department enjoys the special status of being the only department that has contact with every student at the undergraduate level. Since, it is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem; it follows the syllabus pattern of the university. It is one of the largest departments in the college.
The inauguration ceremony was begun with an invocation song by the students of III B.Sc.Chemistry. The association secretary Dr. M. PaulJohnpeter, Assistant Professor and Head, welcomed the gathering. Rev.Dr. Secretary and Rev. Dr. Principal felicitated the ceremony insisting on the importance of learning chemistry. Dr. L. Rakesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, introduced the chief guest of the day. He also spoke about some of the features of chemistry association. Then the chief guest was honoured with a shawl by Rev. Dr. Secretary and Rev. Dr. Principal presented a memento to the guest. Then the chief guest Rev. Dr. Sebastin Thangadurai, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, St. Joseph's College, Trichy, delivered an interactive talk on "Carrier Guidance". Students actively participated and benefitted from the talk. The head of the department delivered the key note message of the inauguration. He spoke about the importance of Chemistry association. He also motivated the students to develop the habit of reading and memory tips. Finally the ceremony got over with vote of thanks by Prof. M. Shalini, Assistant Professor.
